Area below highest recorded tide level | Nine years ago the Coastal Groups and others produced the first Shoreline Management Plans for the North West England and North Wales Coastline (also known as Cell 11). The plans set out the way that Local Authorities and others would manage the coast over the following years. The plans covered the coast from the Scottish Border with England to Great Orme's Head on the North Wales coastline. By clicking on the links on the left or the coloured lines on the map, you can see what the SMP1 said about where you live and the policies that have been guiding your Local Authority's approach to managing the coast since the SMP1 was developed. Technology and our understanding of climate change and how the coast works has changed considerably since the SMP1s were produced. We need to update the existing SMP1s to take this increase of knowledge and understanding into account. As part of this we are now consulting on the next round of Shoreline Management Plans (SMP2s).
